Lars Mikkelsen3-765x1024At age 27, he enrolled at the National Theatre School of Denmark from which he was graduated in the year 1995. He also appeared on The Killing, a drama series that was broadcast worldwide. He was later featured in Borgen III and Those Who Kill, two internationally well-known Danish dramas. He also played a major role in the BBC drama Sherlock where he played the blackmailer Charles Augustus Magnussen. In the American television show House of Cards, he was the role of the president of Russia. He was awarded an International Emmy Award in 2018 for his role in Danish TV drama Herrens Veje, which was shown in the UK in 2019 under the name Ride in the Storm.In addition to his home country of Danish, Mikkelsen speaks fluent Swedish, German and English and has learned various accents. According to Mikkelsen's story the actor learned English from his brother watching Monty Python recordings and watching the comedy sketches.
