Coleman was born in Blackpool Lancashire. She studied at Arnold School in Blackpool. She was a headgirl and earned straight A grades for her A-Levels. While discussing her Emmerdale appearance Coleman acknowledged that she regretted not going to university. When she was at school, Coleman was a member of a theatre company called In Yer Space with whom she was a part of the Edinburgh Festival in the play Crystal Clear. Coleman was awarded nominations as Best Actress, Sexiest Woman and Best Dramatic performance during the British Soap Awards 2009. Coleman received a nomination for Best Actress at the TV Choice Awards. Steven Moffat announced at a Doctor Who press conference on 21 March that Coleman, who had replaced Karen Gillan as the companion of the Doctor following Arthur Darvill left the series and was to play the role of Matt Smith. Moffat stated that he picked Coleman for the role of companion because she could work best with Smith. Also, Moffat noted that she was more talkative than Smith. She is more well-known for her work on television than in the film industry. Of all the characters Eva has appeared in on television shows, Dr. Maria Santos in All My Children and Detective Natalia Boa Vista' in CSI Miami are the two which make an impression. In the latter, she even received two 'Daytime Emmy' nominations and allowed her to explore her creativity in music. Eva is not only acting, but she's also a businesswoman and philanthropist. Her third husband is the father of her daughter.
